Career & Work
After graduation I worked for the PMG and subsequently Telecom Australia on large capital telephone exchange establishment and equipment projects. Mostly engineering project design and management. I was lucky enough to win a Confederation of British Industries Scholarship in 1971 allowing me to work in the UK with General Electric Corp on (then) advanced computer controlled telephone switching and microwave radio. After two years of work and travel I returned to Aus to manage design building and operating teams in telephone exchange switching and transmission for Telecom/Telstra.

I discovered mobile telephony as a career and then spent 14 years leading a team designing building and operating all of Telstra's mobile networks in Aus and Asia. Building a multi $Bn mobile network business from the ground floor up was quite a buzz and a career highlight for me. After this I worked on product and strategy in Telstra in an executive capacity for 3 years finishing up in 2005. Then established a private mobile telecom consultancy company currently with business in Australia and Asia.

Family
Married wife Sue 1969 (seems like just yesterday) no children.

Experiences
Lucky enough between work and private interest to have traveled widely . Many experiences in many places from South America to Middle East Trans Siberian and Asia overland (when it was possible). Drove an MG around Russia in 71 and traveled through Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India – an interesting way to get home.

Interests
Keen on all sports still sail, cycle, run and swim – but slower than ever. Have run in 32 City to Surf's (won none). Sailed competitively from High School days until recently winning two Australian Championships along the way. Keen on electronics and computing – it is in the blood . When I had more time and less money I hand built early computers and wrote programs for fun.

Have had usual share of house renovations and currently in the middle of design and building a new house on our weekend block at Point Clare – we never learn!

What am I doing now and planing
After being a bit of a work compulsive obsessive now I am more in control and mixing work (mainly from home) and other interesting pursuits including travel. Aim is to try to keep fit and healthy.
