Profile Tom Geczy

Following University in 1966 I graduated from the Australian Army’s Officer Training Unit (OTU) at Scheyville, NSW, and subsequently served for several years as a commissioned officer in the Army. I also completed a diploma in administration, at University of NSW.

In 2001 I completed a career spanning more than 40 years in the public sector. I have since established a consulting service which provides high level advice to businesses on the management of their interactions with government. As the principal of Tom Geczy Consulting, I have been retained by a number of leading business clients particularly in relation to their proposals to undertake major industrial projects in NSW. I have also been engaged by government to provide independent advice on public policy and administration issues.

Prior to completing my public sector service, I headed up the industry development division in the NSW Department of State and Regional Development. The Department is the main business development agency within the NSW Government.

Previously to that I held several senior appointments within the NSW Government. I was the director of the major projects coordination unit within the Premier’s department and the senior policy advisor to a Minister whose portfolio responsibilities included industry development and energy.

I had extensive engineering and project management experience in the electricity supply industry and I was selected as a member of an Australian Government technical team to work with an electricity authority in south-east Asia to help plan its power station development program.

In the 2000 Queen’s birthday Australian Honours awards, I received a Public Service Medal (PSM) for service to industry and small business development.
